Attending a national conference SCA24

I am very honored that my teammates and I won the second place in APAC HPC-AI Competition (lost to Nanyang Technological University) and were invited to Sydney to participate in SCA24.

This was my first time attending an international conference, and it was a chance to see the world. There were people from all over the world, from different fields, but mainly from industry and academia, but they all looked much older than I. Also invited were students from National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan, Nanyang Technological University, and many well-known universities in Australia.

I met some friends from Monash University who won the third place in this competition. They introduced their HPC Lab to us. I was very happy to communicate with them. They were very polite and enthusiastic.

There were many interesting workshops on site, such as quantum computing and Trillion-level LLM deployment. I went to listen to NVIDIA’s introduction of their small-scale LLM that can be deployed locally. Of course, I don’t think that this kind of parameter-intensive model can actually help people work.

I have been working on medical artificial intelligence research for the past year. Training complex deep neural networks requires a large data set, and medical image data sets are undoubtedly very expensive. Only professional doctors can accurately annotate images, which makes medical data set annotation a difficult problem. At the conference, NVIDIA introduced a large model for medical image annotation, which greatly helped the annotation of medical images.

I also visited the exhibition and saw NVIDIA’s GH200.

The people here seemed to be discussing business and academics. I felt a little awkward at first, but I soon integrated into their group. During the tea break, although I think the lunch boxes provided here are not to my taste, we would take the lunch boxes given by the competition organizers to find an empty table and negotiate with the people at the table. Fortunately, I met a kind manager from NSCC, who was very generous in praising us, which made us a little embarrassed.

What excites me the most is the Apple Vision Pro, which has just been released and has not yet entered China. This is a really great invention. You can control the AR world in front of you just by moving your fingers. Although it feels a little heavy and hot, and you have to carry a power bank with you to power it.

Of course, we also introduced our school’s supercomputing center and supercomputing team to HPC enthusiasts around the world. We are very proud that we could win in this international competition, which is inseparable from the support of our school and teachers.

I am very honored that the organizing committee awarded us the award certificate. This is the first time I have won an international award. I have gained a lot from going abroad for exchanges, both in terms of knowledge and international capabilities.
